Overview of Steps

Entry into leading schools is highly competitive and early preparation is key to providing your child with the best chance of success.

The Common Pre-tests are taken when your child is in Year 6 or Year 7 and they are an age-standardised measure of ability and attainment.  The tests include Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, English, and Mathematics.  The exact dates that the Pre-tests are taken will depend on your child's school.

Your child should begin to build on their current subject knowledge in these areas from the start of Year 6.

Your child should begin exam preparation from September of Year 8 in readiness for their November Common Entrance Exams.

How libra tutors fits in

  • We provide a free consultation to discuss how we can best support your child where we will assess your child's abilities to see how much or how little support is required.
  • Our Summer residential at the end of Years 6 and 7 aims to build on your child's subject knowledge, confidence, and introduce your child to exam techniques specific to Common Pre-Tests and 13+ Common Entrance Exams.
  • We host an October half-term residential which attracts international students and is designed to provide individual exam coaching for students to build their techniques and confidence.
  • In October of Year 8, we will build on exam technique further and begin bespoke coaching based on your child's requirements at that time, with the aim of fine tuning the learning and development undertaken so far and to make sure your child is ready for their 13+ exams in the coming weeks.
